Most Upper East Side kitchens we work in are in pre-war co-op buildings on Park, Fifth, Madison, Lexington, and East End — many built between 1900 and 1930 and still managed by the same boards that ran them seventy years ago. The original kitchens are typically tucked at the back of the apartment, often with an adjoining maid's room or service entrance.
Our work here focuses on inset shaker cabinets in painted hardwood — heritage colors like off-white, soft cream, deep navy, and forest green — with traditional bead detail, cup pulls, and visible hinges. We mill face frames and crown moldings to match existing apartment trim so the new kitchen reads as original to the building. Where the layout allows, we also convert former maid's rooms into full pantries with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry.
