Brooklyn Brownstone Kitchen Millwork (Park Slope to Bed-Stuy)
Custom kitchen cabinets for Brooklyn brownstones in Park Slope, Fort Greene, Bed-Stuy, and Boerum Hill. Green Cabinets NY installs by appointment. Call (718) 804-5488.
A Brooklyn brownstone kitchen is not a suburban rectangle with a 9-foot island. The room is long and narrow, the plaster is out of square, a chimney breast eats a wall, and the freight path is a stoop plus a tight stair. Stock cabinet packs leave fillers and dead corners. Custom millwork is cut for the opening you actually have.
Green Cabinets NY designs and installs custom kitchen millwork by appointment in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. We are home-based in Bushwick — not a walk-in shop at 10 Montieth. Samples come to your brownstone. Measure day and install day are booked. For borough pricing and the wider kitchen list, start with custom kitchen cabinets in Brooklyn. This post is the brownstone version: four neighborhoods, then a quote without a showroom visit.
Four brownstone kitchens, four millwork jobs
Park Slope. Brownstones off Seventh Avenue and Prospect Park West. Galley and L kitchens, often with a garden-level extension later. Boards and neighbors care about work hours and dust. Painted shaker still reads “brownstone” here; slim shaker keeps a small galley from feeling heavy. We plan COI, elevator (when there is one), and stair carry before the boxes leave Bushwick.
Fort Greene / Clinton Hill. Prewar plaster, high ceilings in parlor floors, short ceilings in garden levels. A 48-inch upper that fits upstairs may not fit downstairs. Chimney breasts and radiator niches force custom widths — not three fillers and a shrug. White oak or walnut uppers with painted bases show up a lot on these floors.
Bed-Stuy. Brownstones and townhouses with long galleys, original stacks that pin the sink, and party walls that are not plumb. Freight is usually stair carry. We spec boxes to the wall, scribe on site, and keep the install to a day or two so the building stays livable.
Boerum Hill / Cobble Hill. Narrow footprints, often a rear extension that changed the kitchen twice already. Out-of-square corners and bulkheads are normal. Slab doors work in modernized rear additions; classic shaker still fits the front parlor language. Same millwork shop — different door language per floor.
We also install in Manhattan and Queens. Same plywood boxes. Different freight rules.
What we actually build in a brownstone
Plywood boxes, dadoed joinery, full-extension drawers, doors cut to the opening. Not a big-box kitchen on a truck with filler strips for every odd inch.
Door styles we spec often in Brooklyn brownstones:
- Classic shaker for Park Slope and Boerum Hill parlors
- Slim shaker when the galley is tight and the frame should recede
- Slab for rear-extension kitchens that want a quieter face
- Glass uppers when a garden-level or dark galley needs borrowed light
Finishes people live with: painted whites, putty, sage, navy, and wood tones in walnut or white oak. Hardware in unlacquered brass, matte black, or brushed nickel. Panel brands we order: Tafisa, Egger, Shinnoki, Wilsonart, AGT. Grain and hardness notes live in the wood species guide.
If the same renovation includes a bathroom, sketch the vanity in the designer — live size and price, to the inch — then fold kitchen and vanity into one millwork package. One COI. One stair or elevator day. The 3D view is a design preview, not a photograph of a finished job.
How a Brooklyn brownstone quote works
Email orders@greencabinetsny.com or call (718) 804-5488. Name, email, phone, neighborhood. Photos plus rough widths (wall to wall, and the run to the window, fridge, or chimney breast) are enough to start. Say brownstone, townhouse, co-op, or condo, and whether freight is stair or elevator.
Cabinetry-only planning ranges in 2026: about $225 per linear foot for bases, $350 per linear foot for a full kitchen. Finish, drawers, and hardware move it. Countertops, appliances, tile, and plumbing are separate. Delivery inside our NYC radius is included.
Timeline is usually 4–6 weeks from a signed design to install day, then a day or two on site. Co-op or condo paperwork and freight reservations add calendar time, not extra days of banging in the unit. We put a schedule on the quote.
We have been doing this since 2009 — 15+ years of NYC kitchens. For how jobs look after install, browse case studies. Renders are planning tools. Finished work is photographed after install.
FAQ
Do I need to visit a shop?
No. There is not a public showroom. Photos, measurements, then a site visit at your Brooklyn brownstone.
Do you install in Park Slope, Fort Greene, Bed-Stuy, and Boerum Hill?
Yes. Regular routes from Bushwick — often under 30 minutes depending on traffic and the block.
Will my co-op or condo board allow this?
Many Brooklyn buildings want an alteration agreement and a COI even for a cabinet swap. We issue insurance certificates once the job is booked and the building names are confirmed.
How long does a brownstone kitchen take?
Plan 4–6 weeks of production, then 1–2 days on site. Buildings add board and freight time.
Are design renders finished jobs?
No. Renders are design previews. Finished work is photographed after install.
